Chicks for Kicks Shoe Drive

The Ormond Beach Chamber is a drop-off site for the Women United annual Chicks for Kicks Shoe Drive (United Way of Volusia-Flagler).

This year the focus is on children and young adults shoes for newborn to18 to be distributed to those in need throughout the community.

Drop off gently used or new shoes before noon Friday, July 29, at 165 W. Granada Blvd, Ormond Beach.

Association returns for 100th anniversary

The Florida Roofing and Sheet Metal Association convened for the annual Convention and Expo July 19-22 at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach.

To recognize the centennial anniversary, the organization returned to the city of its inception and first conference.

One hundred years after a handful of trade professionals assembled at the Clarendon Hotel, FRSA returned to Daytona Beach with an estimated attendance of 3,000, and generated almost 2,000 room nights. The centennial event used almost the entire Ocean Center facility and featured an expo, educational sessions, networking opportunities and awards dinner.

Beaches Daytona promotes staffer to entertainment director

Tommy Curiale has been placed into a newly formed position of entertainment director of Beaches Daytona on East International Speedway Boulevard.

Mr. Curiale has an extensive background in management in the entertainment world and as a Grammy-Award winning artist. He will coordinate artists and accommodations.

The Daytona Regional and Holly Hill Chambers of Commerce will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony and celebration from 4 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Aug 2, for FastSigns new, larger shop in Suite 109 at 1027 N. Nova Road, Holly Hill.

Tijuana Flats opens in DeLand

Tijuana Flats, the Orlando-based Tex-Mex restaurant chain, opened July 18 at 305 E. International Speedway Blvd. in DeLand.

The new location launched with modernized technology and enhanced designs to provide a unique experience for guests. The restaurant spans 3,380 square feet with an indoor seating capacity of 78 and will have a 747-square-foot patio with seating for 64.

A colorful wall mural, painted by muralist Christian Stanley, will feature the iconic Athens Theater during a rock concert with the Just In-Queso band. Tijuana Flats also has restaurants in Daytona Beach and Port Orange.

The West Volusia Regional Chamber of Commerce AM Connection will meet at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 2, in the Center at Deltona, 1640 Dr. Martin Luther King Blvd.

PR group names 'Great Communicator'

The Volusia/Flagler Chapter of the Florida Public Relations Association selected newly-retired Florida Highway Patrol Lt. Kim Montes as the 2022 Roger Pynn Great Communicator and the Museum of Arts & Sciences in Daytona Beach as the inaugural recipient of the chapter’s Great Corporate Communicator Award.

Great Communicator is the highest local honor for a lifetime of achievement and excellence in public relations. The award is named for Roger Pynn, a public relations industry leader in Florida who was state FPRA president in 2015-16 and has served as a strategic adviser to area chapter since 2016.

Montes and the MOAS communications team will be honored at the 2022 Great Communicator Awards luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, at Daytona Beach International Airport. The public is invited to attend. Tickets must be reserved by Aug. 12 at fpravf.org. The cost is $35 for members; $45 for non-members; and $20 students.
